THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS (NASRO) WILL USE FY24 CPD INVITATIONAL FUNDING TO PROVIDE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR 80 COPS CPD FUNDED SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS (SROS) TO ATTEND COURSES SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR SCHOOL-BASED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IN ORDER TO PROMOTE SAFER SCHOOL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS. OFFICERS WILL ALSO BE REIMBURSED FOR TRAVEL EXPENSES TO REDUCE OBSTACLES TO EFFECTIVE TRAINING AND RELIEVE LOCAL AGENCIES OF THE TRAVEL COST BURDEN. NASROS SPECIALIZED TRAINING FILLS A GAP IN KNOWLEDGE IN THE SRO FIELD BY PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE, SPECIALIZED TRAINING DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE DAY-TO-DAY ISSUES AND CONCERNS FACED BY SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS. THIS TRAINING IS PROVIDED BY EXPERIENCED SROS WHO CAN ANSWER FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE ACTUAL DIFFICULTIES FACED BY SROS IN THEIR ROLES. NASRO STAFF WILL WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COPS OFFICE TO PROVIDE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR 80 OF THE COPS OFFICE FUNDED SRO UNDERTHE CHPGRANTEES WHO VOLUNTARILY REGISTER TO ATTEND THE BASIC SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER COURSE DURING THEIR AWARD. EACH OFFICER POSITION WITHIN EACH GRANTEE AGENCY WILL BE ALLOTTED UP TO $550 TO USE TO REGISTER FOR THE NASRO BASIC SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER COURSE.
