FGP VOLUNTEER WORK PLANS WILL BE DEVELOPED EACH SEPTEMBER USING "FRAMEWORK STANDARDS" (MEASUREMENT TOOLS) OF EACH STATION. THESE "FAME" PLANS WILL INDICATE SPECIFIC NEEDS AND VOLUNTEER INPUT; CURRENT LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE (FALLING BELOW STANDARD/ APPROACHING STANDARD/ MEETING STANDARD/ EXCEEDING STANDARD.) IN-SERVICE TRAINING WILL BE DESIGNED TO HELP GRANDPARENTS ADDRESS NEEDS SHOWN ON WORK PLANS. DEVELOPMENT OF DEGRADABLE FIBERS WITH HEMOSTATIC PROPERTIES - PROJECT SUMMARY RECENT EVOLUTIONS IN THE FIELD OF HEMOSTATIC MATERIALS HAVE FOCUSED ON DEVELOPING PRODUCTS WITH HIGH HEMOSTATIC EFFICIENCY. AN IDEAL HEMOSTATIC MATERIAL SHOULD QUICKLY CONTROL HEMORRHAGING, EXHIBIT BIOCOMPATIBILITY AND DEGRADABILITY, PROMOTE WOUND HEALING AND BE LIGHTWEIGHT AND INEXPENSIVE. ELECTROSPINNING DEGRADABLE MACROMOLECULES LIKE COLLAGEN, CHITOSAN, POLYCAPROLACTONE YIELDS NANOFIBER WHICH HAVE SHOWN PROMISE IN WOUND HEALING AND BLEEDING CESSATION APPLICATIONS. MODERN BLEEDING CESSATION TREATMENTS SHOULD HAVE DEGRADABLE AND REGENERATIVE CAPABILITIES BUT LITTLE RESEARCH HAS BEEN PUBLISHED ON THE UTILIZATION OF SYNTHETIC ANALOGS TO COSTLY BIOMOLECULES. THE LONG-TERM GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO GENERATE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF POLYMER-BASED HEMOSTATIC WOUND HEALING MATERIALS AND CELLULAR RESPONSES TOWARDS THESE MATERIALS FOR IMPLEMENTATION IN REGENERATIVE TREATMENTS. AS A STEP TOWARDS THIS GOAL, A DEGRADABLE COLLAGEN STRAND ANALOG MUST BE SYNTHESIZED, ELECTROSPUN, AND COMPARED TO OTHER SCAFFOLDS FOR IN VITRO AND IN VIVO EVALUATION. IT IS HYPOTHESIZED THAT A BIOMIMETIC SYNTHETIC POLYMER CAN BE ELECTROSPUN INTO AN AFFORDABLE, BIOCOMPATIBLE, DEGRADABLE, HEMOSTATIC WOUND DRESSING MATERIAL THAT WILL NOT ONLY CATALYZE COAGULATION BUT ALSO WILL NOT REQUIRE SURGICAL REMOVAL. THIS PROPOSAL IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE IT REPRESENTS THE FIRST ATTEMPT TO INCORPORATE A POLYESTER-BASED COLLAGEN MIMIC INTO ELECTROSPUN SCAFFOLDS WITH THE ABILITY TO CONTROL SCAFFOLD COMPOSITION TO COMBINE DESIRED PROPERTIES AND FUNCTIONALITIES IN AN IDEAL MATERIAL FOR WOUND HEALING AND HEMOSTATIC APPLICATIONS. THIS APPROACH IS INNOVATIVE BECAUSE IT WILL DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF UTILIZING A SYNTHETIC COLLAGEN MIMIC IN APPLICATIONS SUCH AS ELECTROSPUN WOUND HEALING AND BLEEDING CESSATION MATERIALS. IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT THE COLLAGEN-LIKE FUNCTIONAL GROUPS ON THE NOVEL POLYESTER COUPLED WITH THE PRESENCE OF CHITOSAN IN THE FIBERS WILL LEAD TO BLEEDING CESSATION IN WOUND MODELS WITH SUITABLE DEGRADATION RATES. FURTHERMORE, UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS WILL CONDUCT THE MAJORITY OF THE RESEARCH IN THIS PROPOSAL. THIS WILL BE A SIGNIFICANT RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FOR THESE STUDENTS AND WILL PROVIDE THEM WITH VALUABLE LABORATORY AND RESEARCH SKILLS THAT WILL BE ESSENTIAL IN THEIR CAREERS.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WORKFORCE EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM - GRANT FUNDING PROPOSAL ABSTRACT OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY’S MASTER OF ARTS IN COUNSELING PROGRAM IS DEDICATED TO PREPARING ETHICAL, EVIDENCE-BASED CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELORS TO MEET THE CRITICAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTH NEEDS, PARTICULARLY IN MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES (MUCS) IN ARKANSAS AND BEYOND. GROUNDED IN A BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW, THE PROGRAM COMBINES RIGOROUS ACADEMICS WITH CLINICAL TRAINING TO EQUIP STUDENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE AS LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS (LPCS). THE HYBRID, LOW-RESIDENCY FORMAT BALANCES FLEXIBILITY WITH THE VITAL HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES NECESSARY FOR DEVELOPING COUNSELING COMPETENCIES. THIS GRANT PROPOSAL SEEKS FUNDING TO ENHANCE THE PROGRAM'S CAPACITY BY ADDRESSING ECONOMIC BARRIERS TO CLINICAL TRAINING, ADVANCING TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE, AND EXPANDING CAREER SUPPORT SERVICES. KEY INITIATIVES INCLUDE STIPENDS TO SUPPORT STUDENTS DURING UNPAID FIELDWORK, TELEHEALTH CERTIFICATION FOR ALL STUDENTS, SPECIALIZED TRAINING IN AN EVIDENCED-BASED TRAUMA MODALITY, AND FACULTY MENTORSHIP FOR NAVIGATING PROFESSIONAL CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES. ADDITIONALLY, THE PROGRAM WILL TRANSITION A PART-TIME PRACTICUM COORDINATOR ROLE TO A FULL-TIME POSITION TO BOLSTER INTERNSHIP COORDINATION AND JOB PLACEMENT SUPPORT. THE PROGRAM'S FOCUS ON UNDERSERVED AREAS ENSURES GRADUATES ARE WELL-PREPARED TO DELIVER CULTURALLY COMPETENT, TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE TO DIVERSE POPULATIONS. THIS PROGRAM IS ACCREDITED THROUGH THE HIGH LEARNING COMMISSION (SEE ATTACHMENT 1). WITH 20 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE INAUGURAL COHORT, THE PROGRAM PLANS TO EXPAND TO AN ANNUAL ACCEPTANCE OF 24 STUDENTS ENTERING EACH FALL TERM. BASED ON AN ESTIMATED 90% RETENTION AND PERSISTENCE TO GRADUATION, THE PROGRAM WILL GRADUATE APPROXIMATELY 18 STUDENTS IN DECEMBER OF 2026. SUBSEQUENT YEARS ARE EXPECTED TO SEE APPROXIMATELY 22 STUDENTS GRADUATE EACH DECEMBER AND ENTER THE WORKFORCE READY TO HAVE A MEANINGFUL IMPACT ON THE MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH NEEDS OF THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES. IN THE FOUR YEARS OF THE GRANT PROPOSAL AN ESTIMATED 62 STUDENTS WILL GRADUATE AND ENTER THE WORKFORCE. FUNDING PRIORITY: QUALIFICATION 3 – NEW PROGRAM OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY’S MASTER OF ARTS IN COUNSELING PROGRAM IS REQUESTING A PRIORITY PREFERENCE QUALIFICATION 3, AS IT HAS GRADUATED FEWER THAN THREE COHORTS AND MEETS AT LEAST FOUR OF THE REQUIRED CRITERIA FOR NEW PROGRAMS (SEE ATTACHMENT 8 FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION AND EVIDENCE OF CRITERIA MET).

RCN-UBE: CELL BIOLOGY EDUCATION CONSORTIUM: PATHWAY TO PUBLICATION -THE CELL BIOLOGY EDUCATION CONSORTIUM: PATH TO PUBLICATION (CBEC: P2P) RESEARCH COLLABORATIVE NETWORK IS INTENDED TO ASSIST PRIMARILY UNDERGRADUATE INSTITUTION (PUI) FACULTY WITH PUBLISHING RESEARCH IN A PEER-REVIEWED JOURNAL. CONDUCTING AND PUBLISHING RESEARCH CAN BE CHALLENGING AT PUIS WHERE HIGH FACULTY TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES ARE BALANCED WITH MENTORING OF UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH STUDENTS AND TEAMS. THIS PROJECT WILL ADDRESS THIS PUBLICATION DISCONNECT BY HELPING FACULTY PREPARE SINGLE-FIGURE MANUSCRIPTS FROM THEIR DATA, ADVANCING FACULTY AND THEIR STUDENTS ON A PATHWAY TO PUBLICATION. BY REDUCING BARRIERS TO PUBLICATION, FACULTY CAN HELP STUDENTS TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION PROCESS WHILE GENERATING THEIR OWN PUBLICATION RECORD THAT WILL HELP WITH CAREER ADVANCEMENT. COLLECTIVELY, THIS WILL HELP FACULTY BUILD THEIR RESEARCH CREDENTIALS AND ALLOW UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS AND FACULTY TO BECOME PUBLISHED AUTHORS IN A RECOGNIZED SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL. THE INFRASTRUCTURE ESTABLISHED BY THIS PROJECT SUPPORTS THE ENHANCEMENT, EXPANSION, AND SUSTAINABILITY OF UNDERGRADUATE CELL BIOLOGY-RELATED RESEARCH. OVERALL, THE DEVELOPMENT OF FREELY ACCESSIBLE RESOURCES THAT HIGHLIGHT A CLEAR PATH TO PUBLICATION IMPROVES THE STEM PIPELINE, HELPS TO RETAIN PUI FACULTY, AND WILL SERVE AS A MODEL FOR OTHER DISCIPLINES. THIS PROJECT ADDRESSES A NEED EXPRESSED BY CELL BIOLOGY EDUCATORS THAT WHILE THE QUALITY OF UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH IS HIGH, FACULTY OFTEN DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO GENERATE THE EXTENSIVE DATA REQUIRED TO PUBLISH RESEARCH IN TRADITIONAL SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS REQUIRING MULTIPLE RESULT FIGURES. HERE A WORKFLOW FOR A PATH TO PUBLICATION FOR CBEC FACULTY AND STUDENTS WILL BE DEVELOPED THAT RESULTS IN PUBLICATION OF A SINGLE-FIGURE RESEARCH PAPER IN MICROPUBLICATION BIOLOGY, A FULLY CITABLE JOURNAL PLATFORM. THIS WORKFLOW WILL BE A STEP-BY-STEP MECHANISM THAT ALLOWS CBEC: P2P FACULTY TO SUBMIT A SINGLE-FIGURE PAPER TO NETWORK LEADERS, RECEIVE FEEDBACK, RESUBMIT FOR FURTHER COMMENTS, AND ULTIMATELY SUBMIT THEIR WORK FOR PUBLICATION IN MICROPUBLICATION BIOLOGY. TO FURTHER ENHANCE RESEARCH SUCCESS, CBEC: P2P WILL ALSO HELP FACULTY ALIGN THEIR CLASS-BASED RESEARCH WITH THE PATH TO PUBLICATION WORKFLOW.
