FARMERS AND RANCHERS WHO MAY BE OF THE GREATEST NEED OF ANY OCCUPATIONAL GROUP ARE GOING WITHOUT CRUCIAL MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND STRESS ASSISTANCE. THE AGRISAFE NETWORK MOBILIZED PARTNERS IN THE SOUTHERN REGION OF THE UNITED STATES TO FORM THE SOUTHERN FARM AND RANCH STRESS ASSISTANCE NETWORK (S-FRSAN). AGRISAFE WILL LEVERAGE THE STRENGTHS OF THE S-FRSAN TO ESTABLISH A CLEAR BLUEPRINT FOR DELIVERY OF STRESS ASSISTANCE SERVICES TAILORED TO THE AGRICULTURAL POPULATION. AGRISAFE'S TOTAL FARMER HEALTH PHILOSOPHY WILL BE THE BASIS BY WHICH THE SERVICES ARE DESIGNED. AGRISAFE'S TOTAL FARMER HEALTH CAMPAIGN EMBRACES A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO CARING FOR THE AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY BY FOCUSING NOT ONLY ON THE OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS BUT ALSO INDIVIDUAL, SOCIAL AND MENTAL HEALTH COMPONENTS THAT COULD IMPACT ONE'S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.S-FRSAN WILL MEET THE STATED PROGRAMMATIC GOALS BY FULFILLING THESE IMPORTANT OBJECTIVES:1) STRATEGICALLY ASSESS INNOVATIONS IN STRESS ASSISTANCE ESPECIALLY AMONG DIVERSE AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITIES.2) DEVELOP A S-FRSAN WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MARKETING MATERIALS THAT CAN BE BRANDED AND REPURPOSED TO DIRECT FARMERS AND RANCHERS TO STRESS ASSISTANCE.3) IMPLEMENT ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGES THAT CAN RESULT IN A HIGHER UTILIZATION OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND A REDUCTION IN BARRIERS TO SEEKING CARE.4) IDENTIFY PARTNERS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WHO HAVE THE COMPETENCY TO DELIVER STRESS ASSISTANCE TO FARMERS AND RANCHERS.5) OFFER MONTHLY FREE TRAININGS TO RURAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND COMMUNITY INFLUENCERS TO INCREASE THEIR COMPETENCY IN CARING FOR THE NEEDS FACED BY FARMERS AND RANCHERS.6) COMPLETE STRATEGIC PLAN FOR LAUNCH IN YEAR II.

THIS PROJECT FOCUSES ON HELPING AGRICULTURAL WORKERS IN THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES RECOVER FROM HURRICANE HELENE AND PREPARE FOR FUTURE DISASTERS. THE HURRICANE CAUSED WIDESPREAD DAMAGE TO RURAL COMMUNITIES, INCLUDING SEVERE LOSSES TO CROPS LIKE CORN, SOYBEANS, AND COTTON, AS WELL AS STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO FARMS. MANY FAMILIES AND LIVELIHOODS WERE DEEPLY AFFECTED, WITH ECONOMIC LOSSES ESTIMATED TO BE IN THE BILLIONS.TO ADDRESS THESE CHALLENGES, THE PROJECT HAS THREE KEY GOALS:PROVIDE TRAINING TO AT LEAST 600 FARMERS AND RANCHERS ON FLOOD RECOVERY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS.CREATE AND SHARE EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS ON DISASTER RESPONSE, REACHING AN ESTIMATED 20,000 PEOPLE IN RURAL AREAS.ESTABLISH A SPECIALIZED TEAM TO SUPPORT STATE LEADERS IN DISASTER RESPONSE AND BUILD LONG-TERM RESILIENCE.BY FOCUSING ON EDUCATION, RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT, AND LEADERSHIP SUPPORT, THE PROJECT AIMS TO REDUCE THE LONG-TERM HEALTH AND ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF EXTREME WEATHER ON AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITIES.

AWARD PURPOSE THE PURPOSE OF THE SUSAN HARWOOD TRAINING GRANT PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE FUNDS TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS SO THEY CAN CONDUCT FREE SAFETY AND HEALTH TRAINING TO WORKERS WHO MAY NOT HAVE ACCESS TO TRAINING. THIS HELPS ENSURE SAFER WORKING ENVIRONMENTS FOR ALL WORKERS. THE PROGRAM ADVANCES THE JOB QUALITY OF THE AMERICAN WORKFORCE BY PROVIDING HARD-TO-REACH WORKERS HAZARD AWARENESS, AVOIDANCE, AND CONTROL TRAINING TO PROTECT THEM FROM ON-THE-JOB HAZARDS, AND TO INFORM WORKERS OF THEIR RIGHTS AND EMPLOYERS OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (OSH) ACT. ACTIVITIES PERFORMED GRANTEES DEVELOP TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR AT RISK, HARD-TO-REACH WORKERS THAT TEACH THEM TO RECOGNIZE, AVOID, AND PREVENTS OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH HAZARDS IN THEIR WORKPLACE AS WELL AS INFORM THEM ABOUT THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION'S (OSHA) WHISTLEBLOWER PROGRAM. DELIVERABLES GRANTEES MUST TRAIN WORKERS FROM MULTIPLE EMPLOYERS AND/OR DEVELOP TRAINING MATERIALS ON WORKPLACE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH HAZARDS. PRE- AND POST-TRAINING KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT TESTS DEMONSTRATE THE INCREASE IN THE TRAINEE'S SAFETY AND HEALTH KNOWLEDGE. THE SUSAN HARWOOD TRAINING GRANT PROGRAM INCREASES WORKERS ACCESS TO LIFE-SAVING TRAINING. INTENDED BENEFICIARY THE PROGRAM IS BENEFICIAL TO BOTH THE GRANTEE ORGANIZAITON AND TO WORKERS IN HIGH-HAZARD INDUSTRIES, INDUSTRIES WITH HIGH FATALITY RATES, OR INDUSTRIES WHERE WORKFORCES HAVE HISTORICALLY NOT HAD ADEQUATE ACCESS TO OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH TRAINING. THE TRAINING AUDIENCE BENEFITING FROM THE TRAINING INCLUDES YOUNG, TEMPORARY, MINORITY , LOW LITERACY, LIMITED-ENGLISH SPEAKING, AND OTHER DISADVANTAGED AND HARD-TO-REACH WORKERS. INCREASED WORKER SAFETY BENEFITS THE WORKER COMMUNITIES. THE GRANTEE ORGANIZATION BENEFITS BY DEVELOPING/EXPANDING THEIR SAFETY AND HEALTH KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WITH MOST CONTINUING TO CONDUCT TRAINING CLASSES AFTER THE END OF THE GRANT. THIS ALLOW FOR A GREATER OUTREACH TO UNDERSERVED WORKERS. SUBRECIPIENT ACTIVITIES NONE - GRANTEES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SUBAWARD GRANT FUNDS TO OTHERS TO COMPLETE THE GRANT ACTIVITIES.
