ARHEALTH VENTURES, INC. (ARHEALTH) WILL SERVE AS THE LEAD APPLICANT AND FISCAL AGENT OF THIS COLLABORATIVE. THERE WERE 160 LOW BIRTHWEIGHT BIRTHS DURING 2019-2021. ALL THREE COUNTIES ARE DESIGNATED AS RURAL, AND THERE IS ONLY ONE BIRTHING HOSPITAL IN THE PROJECT AREA. TO IMPROVE PERINATAL OUTCOMES AND REDUCE INFANT MORTALITY RATES, EMBRACE HEALTHY START WILL PROVIDE SERVICES AT THE INDIVIDUAL, GROUP AND COMMUNITY LEVELS. WE WILL INCREASE UPTAKE OF HEALTHY BEHAVIORS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER PREGNANCY BY PROVIDING GROUP PRENATAL CARE AND HEALTH EDUCATION THROUGH MOBILE CENTERINGPREGNANCY TO 250 PREGNANT WOMEN AND FATHERS/PARTNER S EACH YEAR. WE WILL INCREASE THE USE OF HEALTHY AND SAFE INFANT AND TODDLER CARE PRACTICES BY PROVIDING GROUP PARENTING AND POSTPARTUM AND INFANT CARE, EDUCATION AND SUPPORT THROUGH MOBILE CENTERINGPARENTING TO 70 POSTPARTUM WOMEN AND FAMILIES (TOTAL OF 320 IN GROUP-BASED EDUCATION). EXPANSION AND VALIDATION OF NOVEL MOBILE APP FOR GUIDING HOME MODIFICATIONS FOR AGING IN PLACE - PROJECT SUMMARY IN THIS PHASE II SBIR, HOMESRENEWED VENTURES, LLC (HRV WASHINGTON, DC) WILL BUILD ON OUR PREVIOUS EFFORTS TO EXPAND AND VALIDATE AN INTERACTIVE MOBILE APPLICATION (APP) FOR GUIDING HOME MODIFICATIONS (ENVIRONMENTAL INTERVENTIONS) CRITICAL TO AGING IN PLACE (AIP). HOME MODIFICATIONS (HM) ARE ASSOCIATED WITH FALLS PREVENTIONS, IMPROVED ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING (ADLS), AND EMOTIONAL WELLBEING. HOWEVER, OVER 95% OF EXISTING HOMES IN THE US ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR AIP, AND A PREVENTIVE OR PROACTIVE PROCUREMENT OF HMS REMAINS AN UNMET NEED. IN ADDITION, APPROXIMATELY 72 MILLION AMERICANS WILL BE AGED 65 OR OLDER BY 2030. THUS, THERE IS AN URGENT NEED TO UPDATE 100 MILLION EXISTING HOMES. HOWEVER, CURRENTLY, NO TOOLS PROVIDE ACCESS TO STANDARDIZED INSTRUCTIONS, TRAINING, PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS, AND HARDWARE SELECTIONS TO ENSURE ACCURATE AND EFFICIENT INSTALLATIONS. HRV AIMS TO ADDRESS THIS UNMET NEED BY DEVELOPING AN INNOVATIVE AND REPRODUCIBLE SOLUTION FOR EFFICIENT, COST-EFFECTIVE, AND QUALITY HMS TO SUPPORT A PREVENTIVE OR PROACTIVE PROCUREMENT OF HMS, ENABLING OLDER ADULTS TO AIP LONGER. IN PHASE I, HRV DEVELOPED A PROTOTYPE APP THAT USES SITE-SPECIFIC INPUTS FROM A CONTRACTOR OR HANDYPERSON TO GENERATE CUSTOMIZED GUIDANCE AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPER SPECIFICATION, PLACEMENT, AND INSTALLATION OF BATHROOM GRAB BARS. THE APP SIMULTANEOUSLY ALLOWS PHOTO DOCUMENTATION OF THE INSTALLATION PROCESS TO VERIFY COMPLIANCE WITH INSTRUCTIONS. INFORMED BY THE PHASE I OUTCOMES, INCLUDING PROVEN FEASIBILITY OF THE APP CONCEPT TO SYSTEMATIZE HM AS WELL AS THE SPECIFIC FEEDBACK PROVIDED BY END-USERS, WE AIM TO REFINE AND EXPAND OUR APP’S FEATURES AND FUNCTIONALITIES AND RIGOROUSLY VALIDATE ITS EFFECTIVENESS AS A PRACTICAL JOB SITE TOOL. TO ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS, WE WILL PURSUE FOUR SPECIFIC AIMS: AIM 1 WILL PROVIDE THE DESIGN CRITERIA FOR A BROADER RANGE OF HMS CRITICAL TO INDEPENDENT MOBILITY (CLIMBING STAIRS, MOVING IN AND OUT OF THE HOME) AND PERSONAL HYGIENE (TOILETING AND BATHING) TO BE PROGRAMMED IN THE APP. AIM 2 WILL ENHANCE THE APP USABILITY AND USER EXPERIENCE BY EXPANDING FEATURES AND FUNCTIONALITIES CRITICAL TO THE USER’S EFFICIENCY AND PRODUCTIVITY. A NEW PROTOTYPE WILL BE READY FOR EXTENSIVE TESTING AND VALIDATION AT THE END OF THIS AIM. IN AIM 3, WE WILL DEVELOP THREE PHYSICAL MOCK- UPS TO SIMULATE REAL-LIFE SCENARIOS IN WHICH CONTRACTORS WORK TO COMPLETE THE PROPOSED INSTALLATION. FINALLY, AIM 4 WILL BE A VALIDATION STUDY ASSESSING THE APP’S ABILITY IN GUIDING INSTALLERS TO CORRECTLY INSTALL HMS IRRESPECTIVE OF THE INSTALLER’S EXPERIENCE. THE OUTCOME OF THIS AIM WILL DEMONSTRATE APP REPRODUCIBILITY IN ENABLING CONSISTENT HM SOLUTIONS IN REAL LIFE. THE PRODUCT OF PHASE II WILL BE AN ENHANCED AND RIGOROUSLY TESTED, AND VALIDATED COMMERCIALIZATION-READY PROTOTYPE. THE DATA GENERATED DURING PHASE II WILL BE CRITICAL TO BOOSTING CUSTOMER/END- USER CONFIDENCE. TOGETHER WITH THE VARROA MITE, NEARLY EVERY DOMESTIC COLONY IS INFECTED (BEEINFORMED.ORG). THE VIRUS DISRUPTS NORMAL BROOD DEVELOPMENT, WEAKENS EMERGING BEES, AND KILLS ADULT BEES. DEFORMED WING VIRUS IS CONCENTRATED AND TRANSMITTED BY THE VARROA MITE, MAKING INFECTION AND INFESTATION A FEEDBACK LOOP THAT CAN OVERWHELM EVEN THE STRONGEST OF COLONIES.THERE IS NO FDA APPROVED TREATMENT FOR DEFORMED WING VIRUS, NOR ANY OTHER HONEY BEE VIRUS. THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP AN EVIDENCE-BASED CURE.THE CHALLENGE TODAY IN SMALL MOLECULE DRUG DEVELOPMENT IS IDENTIFYING A DRUG CANDIDATE THAT IS BOTH SAFE AND EFFECTIVE. TYPICALLY, A CHEMISTRY TEAM TESTS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF COMPOUNDS. THE TEAM MUST STRIKE A BALANCE BETWEEN POTENCY, SIDE EFFECTS, ABSORPTION, DISTRIBUTION, METABOLISM, EXCRETION, AND TOXICITY. OFF-THE-SHELF ENGINEERED NK CELLS TO TREAT GLIOBLASTOMA - PROJECT SUMMARY GLIOBLASTOMA (GBM) IS THE MOST LETHAL FORM OF BRAIN CANCER AND MORE THAN 12,000 PEOPLE ARE DIAGNOSED WITH THIS DISEASE EVERY YEAR. CURRENT STANDARD OF CARE INVOLVED SURGERY WHERE POSSIBLE, FOLLOWED BY A COMBINATION OF CHEMOTHERAPY AND RADIOTHERAPY. UNFORTUNATELY, THE OUTCOME OF TREATMENT REMAINS POOR WITH ONLY 15% OF PATIENTS SURVIVING BEYOND 5 YEARS. RECENT ADVANCES IN IMMUNOTHERAPY, SUCH AS CAR-T CELL THERAPY, HAVE BEEN PROMISING WITH OTHER CANCERS BUT NUMEROUS STUDIES HAVE IDENTIFIED SEVERAL HURDLES IN APPLYING THESE METHODS EFFECTIVELY TO GLIOBLASTOMA. PARTICULARLY, GBM CELLS HAVE HIGH HETEROGENEITY ALLOWING THEM TO ESCAPE IMMUNE DETECTION, AND THEY PRESENT AN IMMUNOSUPPRESSIVE MICROENVIRONMENT WHICH REDUCES THE EFFICACY OF IMMUNOTHERAPIES. MOREOVER, THE ENGINEERED T CELLS ARE CHALLENGING TO SOURCE AS THEY ELICIT A STRONG GRAFT-VS- HOST DISEASE RESPONSE. MONON BIOVENTURES, IN COLLABORATION WITH DR. MATOSEVIC AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY, IS DEVELOPING AN IMMUNOTHERAPY THAT ADDRESSES THE LIMITATIONS OF PREVIOUS APPROACHES. WE HAVE DESIGNED A NOVEL TRIPLE-SPECIFIC CAR-NK CELL CAPABLE OF OVERCOMING THESE HURDLES THROUGH MULTIPLE SPECIFIC MECHANISMS – IMPROVED TUMOR INFILTRATION AND LOCALLY-RESPONSIVE TARGETED ACTIVITY WHILE OVERCOMING MULTIPLE MECHANISMS OF IMMUNOSUPPRESSION. ADDITIONALLY, NK CELLS DO NOT REQUIRE STRINGENT DONOR-RECIPIENT MATCHING AND CAN BE OBTAINED OFF-THE-SHELF. PRELIMINARY STUDIES WITH THE TRIPLE-SPECIFIC CAR-NK CELLS SHOW EFFICIENT KILLING OF GBM CELLS IN VITRO. FURTHER, IN VIVO STUDIES WITH GBM XENOGRAFTED MICE SHOW INCREASED TUMOR INFILTRATION, REDUCTION IN TUMOR GROWTH AND IMPROVED SURVIVAL. MONON BIOVENTURES IS BRINGING THIS PROMISING THERAPY FROM THE LAB TO THE CLINIC. TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL, WE PROPOSE TO DEVELOP A SCALABLE METHOD TO PRODUCE THE CAR-NK CELLS USING NK CELLS SOURCED FROM BLOOD AND DEMONSTRATE THE EFFICACY OF THE THERAPEUTIC IN A GBM XENOGRAFT MODEL. THE FOLLOWING SPECIFIC AIMS ARE PLANNED: AIM 1. ENGINEER AND CHARACTERIZE NK CELLS ISOLATED FROM CORD BLOOD. THIS WILL BE CARRIED OUT THROUGH TWO SUB-TASKS: AIM 1 A. RECREATE THE NOVEL LENTIVIRAL VECTOR DESIGNED BY DR. MATOSEVIC IN A GMP-CAPABLE FACILITY, VALIDATING VECTOR PRODUCTION THROUGH SCALABLE METHODS THAT ARE CONSISTENT WITH CGMP STANDARDS. AIM 1B. ISOLATE AND TRANSDUCE NK CELLS FROM CORD BLOOD; DETERMINE TRANSDUCTION EFFICIENCY AND CHARACTERIZE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE CAR-NK CELLS. AIM 2. DEMONSTRATE EFFICACY OF CAR-NK IN A PATIENT-DERIVED GBM XENOGRAFT MOUSE MODEL. THIS PROJECT WILL GENERATE THE RESULTS NEEDED FOR A TYPE B PRE-IND MEETING WITH THE FDA. WITH FEEDBACK FROM THE FDA, PHASE II FUNDING WILL GO TO SUPPORT THE IND PACKAGE NECESSARY TO BEGIN THE PHASE I TRIAL. ONCE DEVELOPED, OUR NOVEL CAR-NK BASED THERAPY HAS THE POTENTIAL TO ESTABLISH A MUCH-NEEDED NEW STANDARD OF CARE FOR THOSE SUFFERING FROM GBM AND COULD SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE THE OUTCOME OF THE DISEASE.

OUR TOOL WILL IMPROVE THE SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION PROCESS, PROVIDER-PATIENT COMMUNICATION, PROVIDE REPORTS TO CLINICIANS, AND PROVIDE TRIAGE INFORMATION TO NON-EYE CARE PROVIDERS. WE INTEND TO PLACE 325 VOLUNTEERS IN 8 OR MORE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS. THE RSVP GRANT WILL HELP ENCORE.ORG RECRUIT, ENGAGE, PLACE AND SUPPORT 250 OLDER VOLUNTEERS; INTERGENERATIONAL SERVICE FUNDING FROM THE DAVID & LUCILE PACKARD FOUNDATION WILL MATCH AMERICORPS FUNDS AND COVER THE COST OF ENGAGING 75 YOUNGER VOLUNTEERS. AT LOCAL HEALTH CENTERS, VOLUNTEERS WILL SCHEDULE AND ADMINISTER VACCINATIONS, PROVIDE FOLLOW UP CARE AND COUNSEL PATIENTS ON THE SAFETY AND NECESSITY OF VACCINES. IT IS A DISEASE OF YOUNG ADULTS, AS 25% OF ALL NON-SEGMENTAL VITILIGO PATIENTS DEVELOP THE DISEASE BY AGE 10, AND 50% DEVELOP IT BY AGE 30. VITILIGO IS ERRONEOUSLY PERCEIVED TO BE MERELY COSMETICALLY DISFIGURING AND NOT LIFE- THREATING. HOWEVER, IN ADDITION TO OTHER PATHOLOGIES, SUCH AS ALOPECIA AREATA AND HASHIMOTO’S THYROIDITIS, THE DISEASE CARRIES WITH IT A TREMENDOUS PSYCHOLOGICAL BURDEN AND SOCIAL STIGMA, AND A HIGH RATE OF SUICIDE, PARTICULARLY IN PATIENTS WITH SKIN OF COLOR. REPIGMENTATION OF VITILIGO SKIN IS DIFFICULT, TIME-CONSUMING, AND UNPREDICTABLE. EVEN AFTER SUCCESSFUL REPIGMENTATION, THERE IS 40% CHANCE OF RECURRENCE OF LOSS OF PIGMENTATION, WHICH ADDS TO THE PATIENTS’ ANXIETY AND MENTAL ANGUISH. MULTIPLE MECHANISMS HAVE BEEN PROPOSED FOR MELANOCYTE DESTRUCTION IN VITILIGO, INCLUDING AUTOIMMUNE RESPONSE, GENERATION OF INFLAMMATORY MEDIATORS, GENETIC FACTORS, PRO-OXIDANT STATE IN SKIN, AND INTRINSIC MELANOCYTE ABNORMALITIES AND DETACHMENT. THE IMMUNE RESPONSE CAN BE EITHER THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF MELANOCYTE DESTRUCTION OR CAN BE SECONDARILY ACTIVATED BY NEO- ANTIGENS EXPRESSED ON MELANOCYTES. WE HYPOTHESIZE THAT PERSISTENT AND MORE RAPID REPIGMENTATION OF VITILIGO SKIN WILL BE ACHIEVED BY TARGETING THE MELANOCORTIN 1 RECEPTOR (MC1R) EXPRESSED ON HUMAN MELANOCYTES BY TOPICAL APPLICATION OF A SUPERPOTENT AND SELECTIVE AGONIST. THE PI HAS REPORTED THAT ACTIVATION OF MC1R EXPRESSED ON HUMAN MELANOCYTES BY THE PHYSIOLOGICAL AGONIST A-MELANOCYTE STIMULATING HORMONE (A-MSH) PROMOTES MELANOCYTE PROLIFERATION, ATTACHMENT, SURVIVAL, NORMAL REDOX STATE AND MELANOGENESIS. THESE FINDINGS LED HER TO DEVELOP POTENT TETRAPEPTIDE ANALOGS OF A-MSH THAT MIMIC ITS FUNCTION IN HUMAN MELANOCYTES. HER MAJOR GOAL IS TO DEVELOP ONE OF THESE TETRAPEPTIDE ANALOGS, LK 184, WHICH IS HIGHLY SELECTIVE FOR MC1R AND 10-FOLD MORE POTENT THAN A-MSH, IN A TOPICAL FORMULATION TO TREAT DEPIGMENTED VITILIGO LESIONS. THE SPECIFIC AIMS ARE TO DEVELOP LK 184 IN AN OPTIMAL TOPICAL FORMULATION AND PROVIDE PRECLINICAL EX VIVO AND IN VIVO EVIDENCE OF ITS EFFICACY AND SAFETY IN STIMULATING LONG LASTING PIGMENTATION. THE EFFICACY OF LK 184 IS SUPPORTED BY HER DATA, AND BY REPORTED CLINICAL TRIALS SHOWING THAT THE FULL LENGTH A-MSH ANALOG NDP- A-MSH ENHANCES REPIGMENTATION OF VITILIGO SKIN, WHEN COMBINED WITH NARROW BAND UVB. HOWEVER, NDP- A-MSH IS NOT SELECTIVE TO MC1R, HAS EXTRACUTANEOUS EFFECTS, AND HAS TO BE ADMINISTERED SYSTEMICALLY. THE EXPECTATIONS ARE THAT USE OF THE FIRST IN CLASS AGENT, LK 184, IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER EXISTING TREATMENTS WILL HAVE A HUGE POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF VITILIGO PATIENTS, AND LIMIT THE USE OF POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS IMMUNOSUPPRESSIVES. THE PROPOSED STUDIES WILL SATISFY MANY REQUIREMENTS FOR REGULATORY APPROVAL OF COMMERCIALIZATION OF LK 184 FOR VITILIGO TREATMENT BY MC1R VENTURES LLC.

SBIR PHASE I: EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF DECENTRALIZED AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATIONS (DAOS) FOR DIVERSE INDUSTRIES -THE BROADER IMPACT/COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL OF THIS SMALL BUSINESS INNOVATION RESEARCH (SBIR) PHASE I PROJECT IS TO ADVANCE DECENTRALIZED AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATIONS (DAOS) AS A NOVEL FORM OF DIGITAL COLLABORATION AND GOVERNANCE SYSTEMS THAT CAN BE UTILIZED TO ADVANCE NEW COMMERCIAL VALUE PROPOSITIONS. DAOS, WHICH LEVERAGE DISTRIBUTED LEDGER TECHNOLOGIES, ALLOW FOR DEMOCRATIC DECISION-MAKING AND COORDINATION WITHOUT A CENTRALIZED AUTHORITY, SOMETHING THAT ENABLES NEW BUSINESS COLLABORATIONS AMONGST TRUSTED AND UNTRUSTED ENTITIES ALIKE. THIS PROJECT AIMS TO INVESTIGATE THE APPLICATION OF DAOS INITIALLY IN THE HIGH-VALUE FIELD OF VOLUNTARY CARBON CREDITS, WHICH IS ANTICIPATED TO REACH UP TO $40B IN 2030, TO ENABLE ENHANCED ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY. IT WILL RELY ON COMMERCIAL TRANSACTIONS ACROSS A WIDE RANGE OF DIVERSE PARTICIPANTS OF VARYING LEVELS OF TRUST WHO NEED TO BE ABLE TO VERIFY THE CREDITS AND THEIR CHAIN OF CUSTODY AND SUSTAINABILITY, INTEGRATED FROM A WIDE RANGE OF EXTERNAL DATA SOURCES. MOREOVER, THE DAO PLATFORM, A CORE PRODUCT OF THIS INITIATIVE, WILL BE A VERSATILE COMMERCIAL SANDBOX ADAPTABLE TO DEVELOPING COMMERCIAL PRODUCTS FOR VARIOUS MARKETS THAT DEMAND DECENTRALIZED PARTICIPATION. THIS WILL INCLUDE INPUT AND TRANSACTABILITY ACROSS VARYING DAO PARTICIPANTS, INCLUDING COMMERCIAL PARTNERS, EXPERT NETWORKS, CUSTOMERS, REGULATORS, AND BROADER STAKEHOLDERS, SUCH AS WATER RIGHTS ALLOCATION, HEALTHCARE, CARBON CREDIT MARKETPLACES, AND MORE. BY LEVERAGING THE POWER OF DAOS, IT MAY BE POSSIBLE TO ENHANCE OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY, DRIVE THE GROWTH OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES, AND CREATE MORE DEMOCRATIC AND INCLUSIVE SYSTEMS. THIS SBIR PHASE I PROJECT AIMS TO PIONEER THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DECENTRALIZED AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATION (DAO) AS A PLATFORM FOR VALUE CREATION IN VARIOUS SECTORS, STARTING WITH CARBON CREDITS. THE RESEARCH WILL INVESTIGATE THE INNOVATIVE INTEGRATION OF OFF-CHAIN DATA CONSENSUS PROTOCOLS WITHIN DAOS, A LARGELY UNEXPLORED AND COMPLEX AREA. THE PROPOSED R&D INVOLVES DEPLOYING SMART CONTRACTS FOR TRUSTLESS VERIFICATION OF OFF-CHAIN DATA VIA ON-CHAIN INCENTIVES, A PROCESS THAT DEMANDS A SOPHISTICATED BLEND OF CRYPTOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUES, GAME-THEORETIC MECHANISMS, AND DECENTRALIZED NETWORK DESIGN. THIS DESIGN HAS TO BE ROBUST AGAINST MALICIOUS ACTORS, ENSURING FAIRNESS, INCENTIVE COMPATIBILITY, AND RESILIENCE TO SYBIL ATTACKS. CRAFTING A DECENTRALIZED SMART CONTRACT FOR OFF-CHAIN CONSENSUS REQUIRES BALANCING FAIRNESS, COMPENSATION, SUFFICIENT VOTING THRESHOLDS, AND GROUND TRUTH COMPARISONS. THIS EQUILIBRIUM MITIGATES MALICIOUS INFLUENCES AND ENCOURAGES TRUTH IN ADVERSARIAL ENVIRONMENTS. DESPITE THESE SIGNIFICANT TECHNICAL CHALLENGES, THIS WORK REPRESENTS AN INNOVATIVE STRIDE TOWARD UNDERSTANDING THE FUTURE POTENTIAL OF DAO TECHNOLOGY ACROSS DIVERSE SECTORS. IN ADDITION TO EXPLORING THE BENEFITS AND SUCCESSES OF DAOS, IT WILL ALSO ENABLE THE IDENTIFICATION OF KEY RISKS AND POTENTIAL FAILURE MODES ACROSS VARIOUS USE CASES TO ALLOW EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF IMPROVED FUTURE ALTERNATIVES AND DAO DESIGNS. STTR PHASE I: TRANSFER TRAINING DEVICE TO REDUCE FALLS AND INCREASE MOBILITY IN OLDER ADULTS -THE BROADER IMPACT/COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL OF THIS SMALL BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER (STTR) PHASE I PROJECT IS A NOVEL WALKER WITH ACTIVE CORRECTIVE FEEDBACK AND TRAINING PROTOCOLS ENABLING PATIENTS THE ABILITY TO RELIABLY AND REPEATEDLY TRANSITION FROM A SEATED POSITION TO A STANDING POSTURE. FALLS AMONG ELDERLY ADULTS ARE THE LEADING CAUSE OF INJURY RESULTING IN 3 MILLION EMERGENCY ROOM VISITS AND 800,000 HOSPITALIZATIONS. THESE ACCIDENTS ACCOUNT FOR $50 BILLION IN DIRECT MEDICAL COSTS EACH YEAR. THIS PROJECT AIMS TO DEVELOP A NOVEL DEVICE WHICH DIRECTLY IMPROVES THE SIT-TO-STAND (STS) TRANSFER PHASE WHICH ACCOUNTS FOR 41% OF FALLS IN ELDERLY AND/OR COGNITIVELY IMPAIRED ADULTS. OVER HALF OF INDIVIDUALS USING WALKERS CURRENTLY DO NOT RECEIVE THE PROPER ASSISTIVE-DEVICE UTILIZATION TRAINING DUE TO VARYING THERAPIST TECHNIQUES, COMMUNICATION, ENVIRONMENT, OR THE PATIENT'S COGNITIVE ABILITIES. THIS SMALL BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER (STTR) PHASE I PROJECT AIMS TO DEVELOP A DEVICE FOR ENSURING A SAFER AND MORE CONSISTENT TRANSITION FROM A SIT-TO-STAND POSTURE IN PATIENTS USING FRONT-WHEEL WALKERS. CURRENT SIT-TO-STAND TRAINING RELIES SOLELY UPON VERBAL THERAPIST INSTRUCTION OR DEMONSTRATION AND OFTEN RESULTS IN LACK OF CONSISTENCY IN DELIVERY.
