GREENVILLE COUNTY RACISM IN PUBLIC HEALTH INITIATIVE - LIVEWELL GREENVILLE, ALONG WITH STRATEGIC PARTNER COALITIONS THE HISPANIC ALLIANCE AND THE RACIAL EQUITY AND ECONOMIC MOBILITY COMMISSION OF GREENVILLE, ARE SEEKING FUNDING FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE GRENVILLE COUNTY RACISM IN PUBLIC HEALTH INITIATIVE. THE INITIATIVE’S PRIMARY GOAL IS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF BLACK AND HISPANIC COMMUNITY MEMBERS LIVING IN GREENVILLE COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, BY ADDRESSING THE POLICIES AND PRACTICES THAT CONTRIBUTE TO STRUCTURAL RACISM AND PERPETUATE HEALTH INEQUITIES. THE PROJECT’S RESEARCH AND EVALUATION PARTNERS, FURMAN UNIVERSITY AND CLEMSON UNIVERSITY, WILL IDENTIFY RELEVANT POLICIES AND PRACTICES THAT CREATE INEQUITIES IN ECONOMIC, EDUCATION, AND BUILT AND HEALTH ENVIRONMENT OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH AN ASSESSMENT PROCESS USING THE FRAMEWORK ESTABLISHED BY THE OMH-FUNDED FY2021 FRAMEWORK TO ADDRESS HEALTH DISPARITIES. GREENVILLE COUNTY’S RACISM IN PUBLIC HEALTH INITIATIVE WILL BUILD A MULTI-SECTOR TEAM, THE COMMUNITY ACTION BOARD (CAB), MADE UP OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS, ELECTED OFFICIALS AND ORGANIZATIONAL REPRESENTATIVES. THE CAB WILL UTILIZE RELEVANT FINDINGS FROM THE POLICY ASSESSMENT TO DEVELOP AN INNOVATIVE, INCLUSIVE, IMPLEMENTATION-READY COMMUNITY ACTION PLAN TO MODIFY EXISTING OR CREATE NEW POLICIES AND PRACTICES TO REDUCE STRUCTURAL RACISM. THE TEAM WILL USE ADVOCACY TOOLS, SOCIAL INFLUENCE MAPPING, FORMAL AND INFORMAL RELATIONSHIP BUILDING WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS AND THE POWER OF THE THREE COALITIONS TO ACTIVATE THE COMMUNITY TO ADVOCATE FOR SPECIFIC POLICY CHANGE. THE GREENVILLE COUNTY PROJECT WILL AID IN THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE PRIMARY GOAL: REDUCING THE INCIDENCE AND IMPACTS OF RACISM IN PUBLIC HEALTH SETTINGS.

**AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** LIVEWELL GREENVILLE, A COALITION LOCATED IN GREENVILLE COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, WORKS TO ENSURE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOODS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL. LIVEWELL GREENVILLE WILL SERVE AS THE COORDINATOR OF THIS PRODUCE PRESCRIPTION INITIATIVE THAT CONNECTS THOSE EXPERIENCING FOOD INSECURITY WITH FRESH PRODUCE VIAFOODSHARE GREENVILLE (FSG), A PRODUCE BOX FILLED WITH APPROXIMATELY 15LBS OF PRODUCE EVERY TWO WEEKS.PRISMA HEALTH SYSTEM. A KEY COLLABORATOR OF THE INITIATIVE,ROUTINELY SCREENS PATIENTS ON VARIOUS SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH, INCLUDING FOOD SECURITY. UTILIZING PATIENT NAVIGATORS, CLIENTS EXPERIENCING FOOD INSECURITY WILL BE CONNECTED WITH FSG AND BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE PRODUCE BOXES FOR UP TO 12 MONTHS. AT THE END OF THAT YEAR, CLIENTS WILL BE OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE TO ENGAGE WITH FSG BY UTILIZING THEIR SNAP BENEFITS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SC HEALTHY BUCKS INCENTIVE PROGRAM OR BY PAYING OUT OF POCKET. AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE INITIATIVE, LWG ANTICIPATES CONNECTING APPROXIMATELY 440 UNDUPLICATED FAMILIES WITH FRESH PRODUCE, INCREASING PRODUCE CONSUMPTION, AND REDUCING HEALTHCARE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH NUTRITION INSECURITY.
