PROGRAM GOAL: THE MISSION OF TIERRA DEL SOL HOUSING CORPORATION (TDS) IS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND ECONOMIC CONDITIONS OF LOW-INCOME PERSONS RESIDING IN DISTRESSED AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES BY PROVIDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES, LENDING, TRAINING, AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. TDS WILL FACILITATE INSTALLING ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROJECTS AT APPROXIMATELY 17 NONPROFIT-OWNED BUILDINGS LOCATED IN ARIZONA, NEW MEXICO, AND TEXAS. THE PROJECTS AIM TO ACHIEVE ENERGY COST SAVINGS OF AN ESTIMATED 25%, AND WHERE APPLICABLE, TO ACHIEVE AN ESTIMATED 25% REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GAS (GHG) EMISSIONS. BY REDUCING ENERGY COSTS, TDS WILL STRENGTHEN THE CAPACITY OF APPROXIMATELY 17 NONPROFIT BUILDINGS BY INCREASING OPERATIONAL CAPACITY THROUGH REDUCED OPERATING COSTS. ADDITIONALLY, TDS WILL PROVIDE APPROXIMATELY 35 JOB TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN DISTRESSED AREAS, PROVIDE APPROXIMATELY 25 APPRENTICESHIPS WITHIN RURAL AND COLONIA COMMUNITIES THROUGH INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL LABOR UNION CONTRACTORS, AND APPROXIMATELY 10 COLLEGE STUDENTS WILL PERFORM POST-CONSTRUCTION DATA ANALYSIS, PROVIDING A TRAINING OPPORTUNITY THROUGH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE PARTNER. OVERALL PROJECT OBJECTIVES: • ENERGY COST SAVINGS ACHIEVED THROUGH REDUCED ENERGY COSTS ENABLE APPROXIMATELY 17 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO DEVOTE GREATER FINANCIAL RESOURCES TOWARD PROGRAM SERVICES. • THE GOALS OF JUSTICE40 WILL BE ADVANCED BY INVESTING $3,496,500 IN PROPERTIES OWNED BY NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS LOCATED IN RURAL AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES BY IMPROVING THEIR ENERGY EFFICIENCY. • THE GOALS OF JUSTICE40 ARE ADVANCED BY PROVIDING TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH THE INVESTMENT OF $3,496,500 TO MAKE ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS IN PROPERTIES OWNED BY NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS LOCATED IN RURAL AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. • INCREASED APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES RESULT BY ENGAGING WITH LABOR UNIONS TO PROVIDE APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR APPROXIMATELY 25 PERSONS. • A NETWORK OF APPROXIMATELY 14-17 NONPROFITS WILL COLLABORATE TO ADVANCE THE ABILITY TO MAKE ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS ON PROPERTIES IN RURAL AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.

SHOP FUNDS MUST BE USED FOR ELIGIBLE EXPENSES TO DEVELOP DECENT, SAFE, AND SANITARY NON-LUXURY HOUSING FOR LOW-INCOME PERSONS AND FAMILIES WHO OTHERWISE WOULD NOT BECOME HOMEOWNERS. HOMEBUYERS MUST BE WILLING TO CONTRIBUTE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF THEIR OWN SWEAT EQUITY TOWARD THE CONSTRUCTION OR REHABILITATION OF THEIR HOMES.
