A USER-FRIENDLY SEARCHABLE BROWSER WILL PROVIDE FREE ACCESS TO ALL KNOWN ARTWORKS BY THE ARTIST, INCLUDING 1,009 WORKS IN THE O’KEEFFE’S COLLECTION, AS WELL AS 498 WORKS HELD BY AN ADDITIONAL 145 ORGANIZATIONS, WITH RELATED IMAGES, EXHIBITION HISTORIES, ARCHIVAL MATERIALS, AND OTHER DATA ASSOCIATED WITH THE ARTIST’S CATALOG. THE PROJECT WILL BRING GREATER MEANING AND CONTEXT TO THE COLLECTIONS HELD BY THE MUSEUM AND INSTITUTIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, AND PRESENTS OPPORTUNITIES FOR FUTURE RESEARCH, COLLABORATION, AND ENGAGEMENT.

THE PROGRAM WILL ADDRESS THE GEOGRAPHIC AND ECONOMIC BARRIERS THAT MANY FAMILIES FACE BY PROVIDING ENGAGING LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES IN SAFE AND TRUSTED COMMUNITY SETTINGS. USING A MOBILE TRUCK EQUIPPED WITH TOOLS AND RESOURCES, THE MUSEUM’S COMMUNITY EDUCATORS AND LOCAL TEACHING ARTISTS WILL PRESENT HANDS-ON EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN NEIGHBORHOOD SPACES. THROUGH DIVERSE COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, THIS PROJECT WILL PROVIDE APPROXIMATELY 10,000 CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN ABOUT THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF GEORGIA O’KEEFFE, AS WELL AS THE DIVERSE PEOPLE AND LANDSCAPE OF NEW MEXICO THAT INSPIRED HER.

THE GEORGIA O'KEEFFE MUSEUM WILL INCREASE PUBLIC ACCESS TO ITS COLLECTIONS WHILE ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF ITS DIGITIZATION PROCESSES. THE PROJECT TEAM WILL DIGITIZE 1,571 OBJECTS FROM THE MUSEUM'S FINE ARTS AND PERSONAL PROPERTY COLLECTIONS. THE MUSEUM STAFF WILL WORK WITH TWO PHOTOGRAPHERS TO CAPTURE IMAGES OF OBJECTS, WHICH RANGE FROM OIL ON CANVAS TO PAPER TO PHOTOGRAPHY TO TEXTILES. THE MUSEUM WILL PURCHASE SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT TO CREATE A PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO, WHICH WILL BE EVENTUALLY USED TO IMAGE CAPTURE THE ENTIRE FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY COLLECTION. A DIGITIZATION CONSULTANT WILL ADVISE THE MUSEUM ON THE PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT AND TRAIN STAFF ON THE SKILLS NEEDED TO CONTINUE THE WORK. THE NEWLY DIGITIZED IMAGES WILL BE PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE ON THE MUSEUM'S WEBSITE.

MUSEUMS THROUGHOUT THE STATE HAVE EXPERIENCED A SHORTAGE OF QUALIFIED REGISTRARS AND ART HANDLERS WHO RESIDE IN THE COMMUNITIES THEY SERVE. BUILDING ON A SUCCESSFUL PILOT PROJECT WITH THE INSTITUTE OF AMERICAN INDIAN ARTS, THE MUSEUM WILL EXPAND THE PROGRAM TO INCLUDE OUTREACH AND RECRUITMENT AT A RANGE OF LOCAL HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS. THE PROJECT IS INTENDED TO FOSTER IMMERSIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR RECENT GRADUATES ENTERING THE MUSEUM WORKFORCE. IN ADDITION TO THE APPRENTICESHIPS, THE MUSEUM WILL PROVIDE INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOPS AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR CURRENT STUDENTS ENROLLED AT PARTNER INSTITUTIONS. THE PROJECT WILL RESULT IN NEW PATHWAYS FOR EMERGING PROFESSIONALS IN THE ARTS AND CULTURE FIELD.
