COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING/CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED SPENDING - CONSTRUCTION - ADDRESS: 375 CANAL STREET, BRATTLEBORO, VT 05301 PROJECT DIRECTOR NAME: CARMEN DERBY CONTACT PHONE NUMBER: (802) 490-2329 EMAIL ADDRESS: CDERBY@WINDHAMCOUNTYDENTAL.ORG WEBSITE ADDRESS: HTTPS://WINDHAMCOUNTY.DENTAL THE WINDHAM COUNTY DENTAL CENTER (WCDC) REQUESTS $549,000 IN CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED SPENDING (CDS) THROUGH THE HEALTH RESOURCES AND SERVICES ADMINISTRATION FOR PURCHASING DENTAL EQUIPMENT. OUR PRACTICE WAS CREATED TO SERVE AS A DENTAL HOME PRIMARILY FOR SOUTHERN VERMONT’S ORAL HEALTH PATIENTS WHO ARE INSURED OR ON MEDICAID. THE VERMONT DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH STATES 5,700 OUT OF APPROXIMATELY 43,000 PEOPLE IN WINDHAM COUNTY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ORAL HEALTH CARE. THE ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON FOUNDATION HEALTH RANKINGS DATABASE INDICATES WINDHAM COUNTY HAS AN AVERAGE OF 1 DENTIST PER 1,600 PEOPLE. WCDC’S EXPANDED CAPACITY WILL SUPPORT THE NEEDS OF WINDHAM COUNTY PATIENTS WHO CANNOT FIND AVAILABLE APPOINTMENTS. THIS PROJECT COINCIDES WITH WCDC’S RELOCATION TO A LARGER FACILITY, AND THE EQUIPMENT PURCHASED WITH CDS FUNDING WILL ALLOW OUR PRACTICE TO EXPAND THE NUMBER OF OPERATORIES AVAILABLE FOR TREATING PATIENTS. DURING THE GRANT PERIOD, WCDC WILL PURCHASE ALL THE EQUIPMENT NEEDED TO CREATE FIVE NEW OPERATORIES FROM PATTERSON DENTAL. AS A RESULT OF PURCHASING AND INSTALLING THIS EQUIPMENT, WCDC WILL INCREASE OUR TOTAL NUMBER OF AVAILABLE OPERATORIES TO EIGHT DURING THE GRANT PERIOD. WITH OUR EXPANDED OPERATORY CAPACITY, WCDC WILL BE ABLE TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF FUTURE PATIENT VISITS AT OUR PRACTICE.
