THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO ANALYZE A 43-YEAR RECORD OF SALT-MARSH BIRD'S BEAK DATA ALONG WITH ABIOTIC VARIABLES, IN ORDER TO DETERMINE WHAT VARIABLES INFLUENCE SALT MARSH BIRD'S BEAK INTER-ANNUAL VARIATION AT MUGU LAGOON. THIS PROJECT WILL ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:1) HOW DOES TIDAL RANGE, PRECIPITATION, TEMPERATURE, OR OTHER ABIOTIC VARIABLES INFLUENCE INTER-ANNUAL BIRD'S BEAK SPATIAL EXTENT (AREA OCCUPIED) AT MUGU LAGOON?; AND2) IS THE INFLUENCE OF THOSE ABIOTIC VARIABLES DIFFERENT BETWEEN DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE BASE, AND DOES THIS DEPEND ON HYDROLOGY? THE DELIVERABLES ARE A WRITTEN SUMMARY OF FINDINGS THAT WILL ASSIST THE LAND MANAGER AND FWS IN RECOVERY EFFORTS FOR SALT-MARSH BIRD'S BEAK.
