SAVE THE BAY WILL BE AWARDED $1,660,000 TO SUPPORT A FOUR YEAR COMMUNITY PROJECT THAT IS INTENDED TO LEVERAGE ITS 25 YEARS OF HABITAT RESTORATION AND ADVOCACY EXPERIENCE BY IDENTIFYING, DEVELOPING, AND IMPLEMENTING HABITAT RESTORATION PROJECTS THROUGHOUT RHODE ISLAND PORTIONS OF THE NARRAGANSETT BAY WATERSHED. THIS FUNDING WILL BE USED TO ASSESS AND IMPLEMENT PREVIOUSLY-IDENTIFIED HABITAT RESTORATION PROJECTS AND PRIORITIES. THESE INCLUDE PROJECTS THAT ADDRESS STREAM CONNECTIVITY, SALT MARSH RESTORATION, AND COASTAL RESILIENCE. ADDITIONALLY, THESE FUNDS WILL SUPPORT COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT THROUGH LEVERAGING EXISTING PARTNERSHIPS AS WELL AS CONDUCTING OUTREACH EVENTS FOCUSING ON ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE EFFORTS AND COMMUNITIES. THIS WORK IS BEING FUNDED BY THE THE CONSOLIDATED APPROPRIATIONS ACT, 2023, P.L. 117-328 (DEC. 29, 2022): NOAA COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING/NOAA SPECIAL PROJECTS.
