THE COLBURN SCHOOL WILL IMPROVE THE CARE, PRESERVATION, AND ACCESSIBILITY OF THE HERBERT AND TRUDL ZIPPER ARCHIVE, THE ZIPPERS WERE AUSTRIAN-BORN IMMIGRANTS TO THE UNITED STATES, RENOWNED AS INNOVATIVE PERFORMING ARTISTS AND TEACHERS WHO MADE A DEEP IMPACT ON THE CLASSICAL MUSIC, DANCE, AND EDUCATION FIELDS. THE PROJECT WILL IMPROVE THE SCHOOL’S INTELLECTUAL CONTROL OVER THE COLLECTION BY CREATING ARTIFACT DESCRIPTIONS AND A FINDING AID. THE PROJECT TEAM WILL DIGITIZE AND REHOUSE A MAJORITY OF THE COLLECTION, WHICH CONTRIBUTES TO THE NATION’S HISTORY OF CLASSICAL MUSIC EDUCATION AND MODERN DANCE, AS WELL AS HOLOCAUST HISTORY AND THE JEWISH IMMIGRANT STORY.
