**AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** THIS PROGRAM WILL LEVERAGE AND BUILD ON THE EXISTING WORK OF THE VILLAGE MARKET PLACE (VMP) TO INCREASE THE CONSUMPTION OF FRESH PRODUCE BY CALFRESH ELIGIBLE RESIDENTS IN SOUTH LOS ANGELES AND OTHER NEARBY FOOD DESSERT AREAS BY OFFERING INCENTIVES IN 3 DIFFERENT WAYS. 1) PROVIDE INCENTIVES FOR FRUITS AND VEGETABLE PURCHASES THROUGH VMP RETAIL CHANNELS; 2) PARTNER WITH OTHER SMALL RETAILERS IN SOUTH CENTRAL INCLUDING CORNER STORES AND SMALL INDEPENDENT GROCERERS WHO ACCEPT CALFRESH TO OFFER NUTRITION INCENTIVES TO THEIR CALFRESH CUSTOMERS; 3) OFFER NUTRITION EDUCATION IN ORDER TO BUILD KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS THAT SUPPORT INCREASED CONSUMPTION OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. IN ADDITION, THIS PROJECT WILL PROVIDE POSITIVE STIMULUS TO THE ECONOMY OF SCLA BY ENCOURAGING THE LOCAL USE OF CALFRESH DOLLARS. THE PROJECT WILL BENEFIT NEARLY 17,000 CALFRESH RECIPIENTS WITH INCENTIVES AND NUTRITION EDUCATION. OUR EXPERIENCED STAFF TEAM WILL CARRY OUT NECESSARY OPERATIONAL AND TECHNICAL MEASURES TO ENSURE THAT THIS PROGRAM IS MARKETED, USED, TRACKED AND EVALUATED EFFECTIVELY.
