FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OUR HISTORY, THE EXPANSION WILL ALLOW MCASD TO CONSISTENTLY DISPLAY OUR COLLECTION ALONG WITH COMPELLING TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS. MCASD?S HOLDINGS INCLUDE MORE THAN 5,000 OBJECTS IN ALL MEDIA. DESIGNED BY SELLDORF ARCHITECTS, THE EXPANSION WILL NEARLY DOUBLE THE SIZE OF THE FACILITY AND QUADRUPLE CURRENT GALLERY SPACE (FROM 10,000 SQ. FEET TO 40,000 SQ. FEET). OVER 400 OBJECTS WILL FILL THE NEW COLLECTION GALLERIES, WHICH WILL COMPRISE APPROXIMATELY 30,000 SF IN THE RENOVATED FACILITY. STAFF WILL ALSO USE BILINGUAL SOFTWARE TO IMPROVE THE MUSEUM’S SPANISH-LANGUAGE WEBSITE. TO MEASURE PROJECT PROGRESS AND IMPACT, STAFF WILL WORK WITH EXTERNAL, CONTRACTED EVALUATORS TO PRODUCE EVALUATION STUDIES. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE DENVER METRO-AREA, SUCH AS LIBRARIES AND ASSISTED LIVING CARE COMMUNITIES, THE MUSEUM WILL BRING THIS FREE PROGRAM TO MULTIPLE SITES TO ENGAGE INDIVIDUALS AND AUDIENCES WHO DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO VISITING A MUSEUM. THROUGH INTELLECTUAL STIMULATION, SOCIAL INTERACTION, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, AND POSITIVE MOOD SHIFTS, THE SPARK! PROGRAM CAN ALLEVIATE THE BEHAVIORAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SYMPTOMS DISPROPORTIONATELY EXACERBATED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND SOCIAL ISOLATION AMONG INDIVIDUALS WITH MEMORY LOSS AND THEIR CAREGIVERS. THE MUSEUM WILL ENGAGE THREE NEW ART EDUCATORS AND TRAIN THEM TO WORK WITH AUDIENCES IN SAFE, RESPECTFUL, AND WELCOMING PROGRAMS.
