COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING/CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED SPENDING - CONSTRUCTION - TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HEALTH SYSTEM IS CONVERTING THE FORMER CANCER TREATMENT CENTERS OF AMERICA FACILITY INTO A HOSPITAL FOR WOMEN AND INFANTS UNDER THE LICENSE OF TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL. THIS SPECIALTY CAMPUS WILL OFFER WOMEN AND FAMILIES A SAFE, WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT AND THE HIGHEST QUALITY CARE IN A PATIENT-CENTERED ENVIRONMENT. IT WILL ENSURE ACCESS TO STATE OF THE ART CARE AND OUTCOMES REGARDLESS OF SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CIRCUMSTANCES. FUNDS FOR THIS PROJECT ARE BEING ASSEMBLED FROM A VARIETY OF SOURCES. AS PART OF THIS EFFORT, TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL IS ALLOCATING $1 MILLION IN FY 2023 COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING THROUGH THE HRSA HEALTH FACILITIES & EQUIPMENT ACCOUNT. THESE FUNDS WOULD BE UTILIZED TO COVER A PORTION OF THE EQUIPMENT COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NEW FACILITY. SERVICES AT THE WOMEN’S HOSPITAL WILL INCLUDE LABOR AND DELIVERY, OBSTETRICS, A NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT AND A WELL-BABY NURSERY. INPATIENT LABOR & DELIVERY/MATERNITY UNITS WILL OFFER SPACIOUS ALL-PRIVATE ROOMS TO PROVIDE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CARE TO MOMS AND THEIR NEWBORNS, AND ENCOURAGE SUPPORT PERSONS TO STAY OVERNIGHT. TWO OPERATING ROOMS WILL BE LOCATED WITHIN THE LABOR & DELIVERY UNIT TO HANDLE EMERGENCY C-SECTIONS. MATERNAL INTENSIVE CARE & MEDICAL SURGICAL UNITS WILL ENABLE CARE FOR PATIENTS WHO HAVE MEDICAL CONDITIONS AND CRITICALLY ILL OBSTETRIC PATIENTS. DUE TO SPACE CONSTRAINTS, THIS SERVICE IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AT TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL’S MAIN CAMPUS. THE SURGICAL SUITE WILL ACCOMMODATE GYNECOLOGIC SURGERIES AND SCHEDULED C-SECTIONS. LEVEL III NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU) WILL OFFER A COMBINATION OF PRIVATE AND SEMI-PRIVATE SPACES FOR OUR MOST FRAGILE PATIENTS INCLUDING LOW-BIRTHWEIGHT, PREMATURE BABIES, THOSE WHO ARE CRITICALLY ILL, THOSE WHO NEED EQUIPMENT TO BREATH AND THOSE WHO MIGHT NEED SURGERY. THESE ROOMY AREAS WILL ALLOW PARENTS TO STAY AT THE BABY’S BEDSIDE TO PROVIDE FAMILIES PEACE OF MIND AND ENABLE OUR MATERNAL CARE TEAM TO PROVIDE PARENTAL SUPPORT AND EDUCATION. THE LABOR & DELIVERY TRIAGE CENTER WILL BE CONVENIENTLY LOCATED ON THE FIRST FLOOR WHERE OBSTETRICAL PATIENTS CAN BE EXAMINED AND MONITORED FOR LABOR OR OTHER MEDICAL CONDITIONS. FETAL CARE CENTER WILL OFFER BIRTHING PEOPLE AND THEIR BABIES WITH COMPREHENSIVE CARE FROM PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS AND FETAL TREATMENT TO DELIVERY, POSTNATAL CARE AND LONG-TERM FOLLOW-UP. IT WILL ALSO OFFER ULTRASOUNDS AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING TO THOSE WHO ARE AT A HIGHER RISK FOR PREGNANCY COMPLICATIONS. AS MANY PATIENTS NEED TO BE SEEN TWICE A WEEK, OUR NEW AREA WILL BE CONVENIENT, COMFORTABLE AND SPACIOUS. THE FETAL CENTER’S PROXIMITY TO LABOR & DELIVERY TRIAGE WILL INSURE THAT WE CAN ADDRESS SERIOUS CONCERNS EXPEDITIOUSLY. ENHANCED NEONATAL ABSTINENCE SYNDROME TREATMENT WILL BE PROVIDED FOR INFANTS BORN TO BIRTHING PEOPLE WITH OPIOID USE DISORDER. THE NEW FACILITY’S PRIVATE ROOMS WILL ENABLE THE USE OF A NEW EVIDENCED BASED BEST PRACTICE MODEL (EAT, SLEEP CONSOLE) THAT USES NON-PHARMACOLOGIC METHODS AND INTERVENTIONS TO REDUCE THE EFFECTS OF OPIOID WITHDRAWAL. PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO STAY WITH THEIR BABY, BREASTFEED AND PROVIDE COMFORT AND SUPPORT BASED ON THE INFANTS WAKING AND FEEDING SCHEDULE. USE OF THIS MODEL HAS PROVEN TO DECREASE THE USE OF PHARMACOLOGIC TREATMENT AND DECREASE THE LENGTH OF STAY. OUTPATIENT WOMEN’S HEALTH PROGRAMS WILL BE OFFERED, INCLUDING OBSTETRICS, MATERNAL FETAL MEDICINE, FAMILY PLANNING, GYNECOLOGY, PEDIATRICS AND FAMILY PRACTICE. WE ARE ALSO INCLUDING OTHER SERVICES SUCH AS CARDIAC, BONE HEALTH AND BREAST HEALTH SPECIALTIES TO SERVICE WOMEN THROUGH ALL SPANS OF LIFE. ADDITIONAL SERVICES WILL INCLUDE ON-SITE DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING (MAMMOGRAPHY, CT SCAN, MRI, ULTRASONOGRAPHY, BONE DENSITY SCAN), INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY, LABORATORY SERVICES, PHARMACY, PRE-ADMISSIONS TESTING, AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND SUPPORT SERVICES.
