THIS GOAL WILL BE REACHED BY RECRUITING AND TRAINING ADDITIONAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL PERSONNEL IN RURAL KENTUCKY USING THE EXISTING NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S NATIONAL EMERGENCY SERVICES EDUCATION STANDARDS TRAINING CURRICULUM AND TARGETING PEOPLE AND STAFF AT VARIOUS MUNICIPAL DEPARTMENTS IN RURAL EASTERN KY COMMUNITIES WHO ARE INTERESTED IN PURSUING A CAREER IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE SERVICES. AS A RESULT OF THIS PROJECT, 36 NEW, UNDUPLICATED INDIVIDUALS WILL ENROLL IN AND COMPLETE THE CITY OF PIKEVILLE'S EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN-BASIC CERTIFICATION COURSE, AND ULTIMATELY RECEIVE THEIR EMT LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION. STIPENDS WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO TRAINEES TO ENCOURAGE COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM AND ASSIST WITH THE ANCILLARY EXPENSES (E.G., TRAVEL) THAT TRAINEES WILL INCUR AS A RESULT OF PARTAKING IN THE TRAINING. IN ADDITION, THREE (3) NEW DEFIBRILLATORS WILL BE PURCHASED THAT WILL BE EQUIPPED ON ALL PMC AMBULANCES AND WILL BE INTEGRAL COMPONENTS OF THE EMT TRAINING PROGRAM.
