THE GREATER WASHINGTON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION'S MISSION STATEMENT IS THAT IT EXISTS TO BUILD THRIVING COMMUNITIES BY PROVIDING COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP, INSPIRING LOCAL GIVING, PROMOTING CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, AND GUIDING STRATEGIC PHILANTHROPY. THE PROPOSED VISTA PROJECT ALIGNS WITH THE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY AND EDUCATION FOCUS AREA. OVER THE NEXT YEAR, THE VISTA PROJECT WILL SEEK 2 VISTAS THAT WILL INCREASE SCHOOL READINESS AND K-12 SUCCESS IN STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND. THE GOAL OF THE COF IS TO PROVIDE A COMMUNITY-BASED APPROACH FOR AGGRESSIVELY SEEKING OUT NEW FUNDING SOURCES, OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL SYSTEM BUDGET, TO FUND INNOVATIVE, EVIDENCE-BASED EFFORTS TARGETED AT DISRUPTING THE SOCIAL DETERMINANTS THAT CURRENTLY PREDICT THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP.
